The University of Regina men's hockey team hits the road this weekend, heading west to take on the No. 6-ranked Alberta Golden Bears.
The Cougars and Golden Bears met for a weekend set back in October, with Alberta taking both games in convincing fashion, 9-2 and 6-1. Alberta remains in third place in Canada West with a 13-5-2 record while the Cougars are in eighth place at 5-15-0.
Regina is coming off a split against the Lethbridge Pronghorns last weekend, falling 6-4 before bouncing back for a 6-3 win at home.
Dillan McCombie and
Zach McPhee (pictured) each scored twice on Saturday, while
Brock Appleyard and
Cody Fowlie also found the net in the win.
Dawson MacAuley was the winning goaltender on Saturday, stopping 34 shots for his second victory of the season.
J.J. Coleshaw is leading the Cougars in points with 12, while
Ian McNulty,
Miguel Pereira,
Mark Schneider and Fowlie each have 11. McPhee and Pereira are each enjoying four game point streaks with three goals and two helpers over that span.
MacAuley leads the Cougars in goals-against average (3.91) and save percentage (.888), but Kilgore has seen action in 12 games. Both Kilgore and MacAuley have two wins to their credit, while rookie
Andy Desautels collected a win over Lethbridge back in November.
Jordan Hockmott and Kruise Reddick lead the Alberta attack, with 27 and 24 points, respectively. Levko Koper rounds out the top line for the Golden Bears with nine goals and 12 assists, making it the highest scoring trio in Canada West. Brett Ferguson (19 points), Stephane Legault (19) and Jamie Crooks (18) are also filling up the stat sheet for the two-time defending National champions.
The Cougars and Bears will face off at 7 p.m. on Friday followed by Saturday's rematch at 6 p.m. local time.
