Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Lethbridge earns split with 4-2 win

The University of Regina men's hockey team fell 4-2 in a tightly-contested matchup with the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday afternoon.

Cory Millette, Tim Campbell, Justin Valentino and Dalton Sward had goals for Lethbridge. Dillan McCombie (pictured) and Logan Harland replied for the Cougars.

The Pronghorns opened the scoring in the first period as Millette scored his first Canada West goal on the powerplay. The rookie capitalized on a scramble around the net, putting it away to put the home team on top early in the first.

Regina would answer before the period was over, as McCombie made his way into the slot and beat Garret Hughson with a quick shot to even the score. Landon Peel and Isaac Schacher assisted on McCombie's first goal of the season.

The 'Horns took the lead back with the only goal of the second period, thanks to their captain. Campbell sent a shot towards the Cougar net that hit the post and bounced off the back of Andy Desautels' pad, redirecting into the open net.

Harland tied the game up again for the Cougars at the 9:30 mark of the third period, batting in his first goal as a Cougar following a funny bounce off the end boards. Tyler Bell and Peel collected assists on the play.

Valentino scored the deciding goal with just a minute and 36 seconds to play, faking out Desautels and potting the winner. Sward addded an empty netter to seal the deal just 35 seconds later.

Desautels made 34 saves in the loss, while Hughson stopped 35 shots for his first win at the Canada West level.

Regina is at home next weekend for the first time this season, playing host to the Manitoba Bisons for a weekend set.
