Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Kupper and Magwood score as Cougars blank Huskies

Kylee Kupper and Jaycee Magwood's first-period goals were all the University of Regina women's hockey team needed on Friday night, as the Cougars earned a hard-fought 2-0 win over the Saskatchewan Huskies in Canada West action.

Kupper scored on the powerplay early in the first period, with just three seconds left on a Danielle Nogier tripping minor. Kupper's third of the season came off assists from Alexis Larson and Bailey Braden.

Magwood added to the Cougar lead just over two minutes later, beating Cassidy Hendricks at the 5:30 mark of the opening frame. Larson (pictured) notched her second assist of the game and Kylie Gavelin also earned a helper on Magwood's second.

The two-goal lead was put to the test multiple times, as the Cougar penalty kill was the star of the show for the remaining 55 minutes. Jane Kish and the Regina special teams held the Huskies off the board on all 11 of the Saskatchewan man advantages.

Kish picked up her fourth win of the season in net, making 28 saves for her first career shutout. Hendricks stopped 18 shots in net for Saskatchewan.

The Cougars (3-3-1-0) draw within one point of the 3-2-2-0 Huskies following Friday's result.

The two teams will head back to Regina for a Saturday evening matchup at The Co-operators Centre. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
