The University of Regina women's hockey team will look to carry last weekend's success into this weekend, as the Cougars hit the road to Edmonton to battle the 1-2-2-3 Alberta Pandas.
The Cougars (4-3-1-0) are coming off a weekend sweep of the Saskatchewan Huskies, a home-and-home set that saw the Cougars hold on for a 2-0 win in Saskatoon before returning to The Co-operators Centre for a 3-1 comeback victory.
Jaycee Magwood scored once in Friday's win before netting the game-winner and an empty-netter on Saturday. Second-year netminder
Jane Kish notched her first career shutout on Friday and rookie
Morgan Baker earned her first Canada West win on Saturday evening.
Magwood leads the Cougars in scoring and is tied for third in the conference with nine points through the first eight games.
Kylie Gavelin is next on the list with six points, but her and Magwood sit first and second in Canada West with 48 and 44 shots on goal, respectively.
Kylee Kupper has five points while
Merissa Zerr,
Alexis Larson and
Krista Metz each have four.
Kish has started six games in net for Regina, sporting a 2.50 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage to go with her 4-2 record. Baker has made four appearances with two starts, posting number of 2.52 and .870 with a 1-1 record.
The Pandas split with Mount Royal University last weekend, winning 4-3 on the road before dropping a 1-0 decision on home ice.
Amy Boucher has been Alberta's top offensive weapon so far, registering three goals and four assists. Kennedy Ganser and Alex Poznikoff are next on Alberta's scoring list with five points apiece.
Dayna Owen has a 1.18 GAA with a .924 save percentage, while Lindsey Post has hit numbers of 2.10 and .886.
The two teams split four matchups in the 2015-16 season, each winning two contests.
The Cougars and Pandas will face off at 7 p.m. on Friday before a 2 p.m. rematch on Saturday afternoon.
