The University of Regina men's hockey team will play its final games of 2016 on home ice this weekend, as the Lethbridge Pronghorns visit The Co-operators Centre for a pair of games.
The Cougars (3-10-1) were on the road at Calgary last weekend, where they fell 5-4 in double overtime on Friday and 6-1 on Saturday. The Cougars scored four times in the second period in Friday's contest, with goals from
Landon Peel,
Zach McPhee,
Tristan Frei and
Logan Harland.
Cody Fowlie scored in Saturday's rematch.
Rookie
Tristan Frei enters the weekend riding a five-game point streak to lead the Cougars with 12 points in 14 games. Fowlie has a four-game point streak to his credit, and is tied with
J.J. Coleshaw for second on the Cougars with nine points.
Tyson Predinchuk,
Ian McNulty, Peel and McPhee each have five points on the season.
Andy Desautels has made 10 starts in net for the Cougars, posting a 3.80 goals-against average and a .888 save percentage.
Mitch Kilgore and
Dawson MacAuley have both seen limited time between the pipes.
Lethbridge (6-5-3) has been hot as of late, winning four of their last six games as they split against both Alberta and Manitoba and swept Mount Royal in a home-and-home. Justin Valentino and Mitchell Maxwell are tied for the Pronghorn lead in points scored, as each have 12. Tim Campbell is right behind them with 11.
Rookie Garret Hughson has seen most of the action in net for the Pronghorns, making 11 starts and recording a 6-4-1 record. The first-year netminder has a 3.01 GAA and 9.12 save percentage.
The Cougars and Pronghorns opened up the 2016-17 Canada West season against each other in Lethbridge back in October. The matchup saw the Cougars take a 2-1 win in the opener but the Pronghorns replied with a 4-2 victory the following afternoon.
