Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Pandas earn split with 4-2 win over Cougars

The University of Regina women's hockey team suffered a 4-2 defeat over the hometown Alberta Pandas on Saturday afternoon, taking a split in the weekend series.

Amy Boucher had a pair of goals for Alberta, while Abby Benning and Autumn MacDougall also scored to help the Pandas bounce back from a 3-0 loss the night before. Kylie Gavelin and Sam Geekie (pictured) replied for the Cougars (5-4-1-0).

Gavelin opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game, beating Lindsey Post on the powerplay. Emma Waldenberger and Nikki Watters-Matthes assisted on Gavelin's third of the season.

Benning evened things up for the Pandas later in the first period, snapping a scoreless drought of over 120 minutes for Alberta. The home team took the lead at the 2:33 mark of the third period, as Boucher netted her first of the night off an assist from Ashley Morin.

Regina would reply to knot the game once again, as Geekie scored the second goal of her career thanks to a helper from Bailey Braden.

The game went into the third period tied at two but MacDougall scored the game-winner midway through the frame, batting in a rebound after a scramble in front of Jane Kish. Boucher added an insurance marker less than a minute later, sealing  the win.

Kish was steady in net, making 26 saves in the loss. Post stopped 21 shots at the other end of the rink.

Both teams will have next weekend off, as the conference takes its bye week.
