Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Baker earns shutout as Cougars sweep Pronghorns

The University of Regina women's hockey team pushed their win streak to four games with a 3-0 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns in their final contest of 2016 on Saturday afternoon.

Jaycee Magwood scored what would be the eventual game-winning goal early in the second period and Emma Waldenberger added two empty net markers to seal the deal. Rookie goaltender Morgan Baker earned the first shutout of her career, stopping 24 shots for the win.

Magwood's marker was her 11th tally of the season, which puts her atop the Canada West goal-scoring race heading into the December break. Alexis Larson and Bailey Braden picked up assists on the goal. Both of Waldenberger's markers were unassisted, coming at the 19:01 and 19:45 marks of the final frame.

Baker was stellar in net for the Cougars, picking up her third win of the season in four starts. Her performance on Friday drops her goals-against average to 1.88 and bumps her save percentage up to .908 in her six appearances.

The Cougars peppered Alicia Anderson with shots for the second-straight night, sending 39 shots towards the second-year netminder.

Regina moves into third place in Canada West for the time being, improving to 9-6-1-0 with the win. The Cougars will be back in action in early January to host the Manitoba Bisons.
