Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s hoops loses 115-91 barnburner to Calgary

In one of the highest-scoring games in school history, the University of Regina's men's basketball team suffered a 115-91 road loss to Calgary on Thursday night as the Cougars fall to 10-7 on the season.

The combined total of 206 points stands as the 10th highest in a game involving the Cougars since they began interuniversity play in 1968.

The Cougars were right in the game for the first half, leading 31-29 after the first quarter and trailing 51-47 at the halftime break. But Regina never recovered from 12 consecutive Calgary points in the third quarter, as the Dinos' lead went from three to 15 in the span of just three minutes. Calgary never trailed by fewer than 12 points after that point, and pushed the lead up over 20 in garbage time.

Ultimately, the Cougars couldn't find an answer for Calgary guard Thomas Cooper. The fourth-year guard had a season-high 42 points, going 13-for-26 from the field and 12-for-13 from the free throw line while also hitting four of his five attempts from three. Lars Schlueter added 23 points and nine rebounds for the Dinos, while David Kapinga added 13 points and Jhony Verrone scored 10.

As a team, Calgary was 51.2% from the field overall and a blistering 12-for-17 (70.6%) from three-point range.

Four Cougars hit double figures in scoring, led by Jonathan Tull's 19 points. Brian Ofori added 16 points, while Alex Igual scored 14 and Will Tallman had 12.

The two teams will meet again on Friday night in Calgary (8:00 MST). A win would send the Cougars to the postseason for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign.
