The University of Regina women's hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to the UBC Thunderbirds on Friday night. With the win, UBC stretches its first-place lead in the Canada West standings, four points above Regina and Alberta.
Stephanie Schaupmeyer, Shiayli Toni and Rebecca Unrau scored for UBC while Danielle Dube stopped all 26 shots directed her way to earn the win in net.
The Cougars best period offensively was the second frame, when the outshot UBC 12-9. The Thunderbirds' attack was steady, notching a goal in each period to put the Cougars away and give themselves some breathing room with the season winding down.
Toni Ross was steady in net, stopping 24 shots in just her second loss of 2016.

Bailey Braden (pictured),
Kylie Gavelin and
Alexis Larson each added three.
The Cougars will have a chance to earn back three points on Saturday evening with a regulation win, as the two teams will square off again at 7 p.m. PST.
NOTE: Alberta also lost on Friday night, falling to the Saskatchewan Huskies who pull within three points of the second-place tie between the Coguars and Pandas.
