Canada West named University of Regina libero
Jacques Borgeaud a conference first-team all-star on Tuesday after a spectacular fifth season with the Cougars that saw him lead the nation in digs.
Borgeaud's 238 digs this year not only led the entire CIS, but also broke his own University of Regina single-season record that he set in 2014-15.
"Jacques has been outstanding from the first day he arrived in Regina and this is a great recognition for him," Cougars head coach
Greg Barthel said. "This past year he's been especially great with nearly flawless defence and passing. His contributions go well beyond what the stats say – he's been the captain of our team for the past three years and takes pride in helping his younger teammates develop."
Over his five seasons with the Cougars, Borgeaud finishes as the school's all-time leader in career digs (950), digs per set (2.63), and total sets played (361). His total of 950 career digs is the second most ever compiled by a Canada West player, trailing only former UBC libero Blair Bann (1018).
Borgeaud becomes the first U of R men's volleyball player ever to be named a Canada West all-star. The last Cougars to earn a spot on a conference all-star team were Ryan Bohn and Greg Bridgeman, who each earned Great Plains Athletic Conference all-star nominations in 2001 – the program's final season in that league before moving to Canada West the following year.
