The University of Regina women's soccer team was defeated by a relentless MacEwan Griffins attack on Sunday, falling 1-0 in Edmonton.
MacEwan kept Cougar keeper
Ashton Lowry busy, registering 30 shots on the afternoon. Lowry made a whopping 13 saves, but didn't have much of a chance on the Griffins' lone marker - a penalty kick by Suekiana Choucair. MacEwan was awarded the penalty in the 16th minute after
Racquel Marshall was whistled for a foul in the Regina box.
The Cougars managed 11 shots of their own, seven of which were on net.
Brianna Wright and
Nikita Senko both had two shots on goal for Regina.
Lauren Petras,
Cassie Longmuir and Marshall each added one shot on net of their own.
Lowry made a big save in the second minute, and Longmuir chipped in with a defensive save as a shot came in after a corner kick in the 58th minute. Just a minute after that,
Kayla McDonald was issued a red card after a sliding tackle, and the Cougars were forced to play a woman down for the rest of the match.
Regina (1-3-2) will return home next weekend, hosting the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday and the Calgary Dinos on Sunday at the U of R Field.
