The University of Regina men's hockey team is on the road again this weekend, heading to Edmonton to face the third-place Alberta Golden Bears in a weekend set.
The Cougars (3-14-1) lost two games to the hometown Manitoba Bisons last weekend, dropping a 3-0 decision on Friday but making things interesting before falling 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.
Ian McNulty had two goals and an assist on Saturday, while
Cody Fowlie (1G, 1A) and
Tyler King (3A) each had multi-point outings.
Tristan Frei and Fowlie both have 12 points to lead the Cougars, with five and four goals, respectively.
J.J. Coleshaw and McNulty each have four goals and five assists, and
Tyler Bell leads Regina defencemen with five assists and seven points.
Andy Desautels got the start on Friday against Manitoba, surrendering two goals on 31 shots. The second-year goaltender has put up a 3.80 goals-against average and a .887 save percentage in 13 appearances.
Dawson MacAuley started on Saturday afternoon, making 41 saves to bump his save percentage to .881.
Alberta (11-6-1) is coming off a split with seventh-place UBC, a weekend after being swept by the Saskatchewan Huskies. The Golden Bears are still tied with third and boast the conference's second-highest scoring offence with 64 goals.
Jayden Hart is tied for second in Canada West with 19 points, and tied for first with 12 goals to his credit. Jamie Crooks is right behind Hart with 18 points while Tyson Baillie has chipped in with 17. Dylan Bredo is the Golden Bears' high point man on the blue line, with three goals and 10 assists from his defence position.
Luke Siemens has made 10 starts in goal for Alberta and rookie Brendan Burke has seen action in seven contests. Siemens has seven wins on a 2.84 goals-against average and .910 save percentage. Burke's 1.77 GAA is good for second among Canada West netminders, and pairs with an impressive .923 save percentage.
