Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Pandas roll to sweep with 5-2 win

The University of Regina men's hockey team fell victim to another two-goal night from Jamie Crooks on Saturday evening, as the Alberta Golden Bears took a 5-2 win over the Cougars in Canada West action.

Crooks tallied a short-handed marker in the second period and added an empty netter to seal things for Alberta, giving him four goals in the two-game weekend set. Riley Kieser and Tyson Baillie each had a goal and an assist and Cole Sanford scored his first Canada West goal in the win.

Stephen Langford and Logan Harland replied for Regina (3-16-1).

Langford opened the scoring for Regina just over five minutes in, scoring his second of the season off helpers from Dillan McCombie and Austin Bourhis. Alberta replied three minutes later thanks to Sanford, as he beat Dawson MacAuley on the powerplay to even the score.

Kieser put Alberta on top early in the second but Harland replied at the 11:24 mark to draw the Cougars even again. It was all Alberta from there, however, as Crooks scored twice and Baillie notched another to help the Golden Bears to the 5-2 win.

Brendan Burke made 25 saves in net for Alberta, as the Golden Bears move into a tie for second place in the conference with Mount Royal. MacAuley made 35 saves at the other end of the rink as Regina drops its eighth in a row.

The Cougars will be at home next weekend for the first time in 2017, hosting the aforementioned MRU Cougars.
