The University of Regina men's hockey team fell to the Saskatchewan Huskies on Friday night, as the No. 2-ranked Huskies put on an offensive show en route to a 10-2 win at the Rutherford Rink.
Saskatchewan stormed out to a 6-0 lead before the Cougars could answer, with three markers beating
Dawson MacAuley in the first period.
Andy Desautels came on in relief for the second but he too was chased to the bench, giving up four goals on 18 shots.
Tristan Frei (pictured) scored his seventh of the season to put the Cougars on the board midway through the second period, and
Dillan McCombie netted his second early in the third. The Huskies put three more past MacAuley in the third period on 11 more shots.
Logan McVeigh and Connor Gay each had two goals and an assist. Cameron Blair (3A) and Jaimen Yahubowski (1G, 2A) each had three point nights while Jordan Fransoo, Jordan Tkatch and Andrew Johnson, Wyatt Johnson and John Lawrence scored the other goals for Saskatchewan.
Things got chippy in the second and third periods, with a total of 140 minutes in penalties and eight misconducts handed out by the officials.
The Huskies outshot Regina 42-28 on the night, with Jordon Cooke making 26 saves for his Canada West-leading 16th win of the season.
The Cougars and Huskies will square off again on Saturday night, with puck drop set for 7 p.m. at The Co-operators Centre.
