The University of Regina men's hockey team is in Calgary this weekend for a pair of games against Mount Royal University.
The Cougars are coming off a season opening weekend that saw them get swept in a home-and-home with the No. 3-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies. The Cougars fell 8-2 at home on Friday and 6-0 on the road on Saturday night.
Zak Zborosky and
Tyler King were the goal scorers for the Cougars, while
Brody Luhning picked up assists on both goals and
Cody Fowlie and
Ian McNulty also collected a helper each.
Michael Herringer started both games in net for the Cougars, making 73 saves over the course of the weekend.
Mount Royal also dropped the first two games of their season, falling 7-0 and 5-1 to Alberta in a home-and-home series of their own. Hunter Zandee scored the only goal MRU has potted so far, netting a shorthanded marker off assists from Jesse Lees and Luke Simpson. Wyatt Hoffin has played five periods in net, making 56 saves while Colin Cooper came on in relief on Friday to stop 10 shots.
The Cougars are in the midst of a five-game road swing, heading to UBC next weekend to take on the Thunderbirds.
Regina and MRU met four times in the regular season a year ago, with Mount Royal earning the season sweep and taking all four games.
