The University of Regina women's hockey team will play on home ice this weekend as Mount Royal University is in town for a two-game set.
Week One in the Books
The Cougars enter the weekend with a 1-1-0 record, after winning 3-2 on the road but losing 4-3 at home against Saskatchewan to open the Canada West regular season last weekend. Mount Royal also split the first series of their season, falling 4-0 to Alberta at home but sneaking out a 2-1 shootout victory on the road the next night.
Balanced Attack
The Cougars have had multiple sources of goal scoring early in the season, with their six goals coming from five different skaters.
Emma Waldenberger has two goals to lead the way, while
Jaycee Magwood,
Jordan Kulbida,
Shaelyn Vallotton and
Bailey Braden have also scored. Magwood and Kulbida each had a goal and two assists in Saturday's 4-3 loss.
Mount Royal has only scored one goal through two games to this point, an unassisted marker off the stick of Megan Carver in the second period of Saturday's game.
In the Crease
Jane Kish and
Morgan Baker each got a start in goal last weekend, with Kish making 42 saves in Friday's win and Baker stopping 29 shots on Saturday.
Second-year netminder Zoe DeBeauville got the nod both nights for MRU, making 43 saves over the span of the weekend.
The History Books
The Cougars have met MRU 20 times in the regular season since 2012, entering this weekend with a 12-7-1 record. The two teams faced off four times a season ago, with the Cougars coming out on top in three of those games.
