The University of Regina men's hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision on Saturday afternoon as the UBC Thunderbirds earned a weekend sweep.Â
The Cougars trailed 2-0 heading into the third period on goals from Adam Rossignol and Manraj Hayer but mounted a comeback thanks to Zak Zborosky and Ian McNulty. Zborosky's third of the season came 48 seconds into the third period off assists from McNulty and Isaac Schacher.
McNulty notched his second of the year with help from Zborosky and Cody Fowlie six minutes later but a goal from Michael Stenerson just 14 seconds after ended up being the game winner.
The Cougars had more than a minute of six-on-five opportunity at the end of the game after Michael Herringer was pulled, but couldn't solve Matt Hewitt who made 33 saves on the night. Herringer stopped 28 shots as the Cougars drop to 1-4-1.
Regina will be on home ice for the first time since the season opener next weekend, as the 6-0-0 Alberta Golden Bears are in town.
