The University of Regina women's hockey team is back on the road after five straight games at home, as the Cougars will take to Edmonton to face off against the top-ranked Alberta Pandas.
Early-Season Success
Regina (4-2-0-0) is coming off a split against the No. 2 team in the country, as the UBC Thunderbirds visited The Co-operators Centre last weekend. UBC took the opener 4-3 but Regina bounced back for a 1-0 shutout win the following evening.
Jane Kish earned the win on Saturday while
Bailey Braden,
Emma Waldenberger,
Jordan Kulbida and
Tamara McVannel all picked up goals on the weekend.
Alberta, which boasts a 4-1-1 record and is the No. 1-ranked team in U SPORTS, picked up two wins in a home-and-home series against Calgary last weekend. The Pandas dropped the Dinos 2-1 at home and followed that up with a 2-0 win on the road. Â
On the Attack
Jaycee Magwood leads the Cougars with six points and four goals to her credit, while Braden, Kulbida and
Merissa Zerr (pictured) each have five points.
Martina Maskova,
Jensen Smigelsky and
Ireland South have three assists each and Waldenberger has found the net three times.
Taylor Kezama leads the charge for the Alberta attack with one goal and five assists. Amy Boucher has a team-high four goals while Cayle Dillon, Autumn MacDougall, Deanna Morin and Hannah Olenyk have four points apiece.
In the Crease
Kish and
Morgan Baker have split time in goal for the Cougars, making three starts each. Kish has won all three of her starts with a conference-best 1.33 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage. Baker has a 3.34 GAA and has stopped pucks at a .894 rate.
Dayna Owen has started all but one game in net for Alberta, posting a 1.75 goals-against average along with a .905 save percentage. Kirsten Chamberlain has made one start in net, stopping all 14 shots she faced for the shutout.
