The University of Regina's women's basketball team took control in the second half in an exhibition game against Minot State on Saturday, ending up with an 80-52 win over the Beavers at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
The Cougars scored nine consecutive points in the second quarter to help the home side carry a 38-28 lead into the halftime break, and another 9-0 run in the third put the Cougars up by 21. They never led by fewer than 16 points the rest of the way, and Regina scored the last 10 points of the game to put an exclamation mark on the win.
Sara Hubenig hit a pair of three-pointers and finished with a game-high 16 points in 18 minutes off the bench for the Cougars, while
Carolina Goncalves added 13 points, seven rebounds, and a game-high four steals.
Kyanna Giles scored 12 points and also led all players with eight rebounds.
Kristal Flowers led Minot State with 12 points.
After going 9-1 against U SPORTS opposition in non-conference action, the Cougars will now turn their attention to the Canada West schedule. They'll start out conference play next weekend at Manitoba with games on Friday and Saturday at the Investors Group Athletic Centre.
