Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Bisons score twice late to complete sweep of Cougars

The University of Regina women's hockey team surrendered a late goal as the Manitoba Bisons came from behind for a 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon.

Tamara McVannel scored in the second period and the Cougars led until late in the third, when the Bisons rattled off two quick goals to pick up the weekend sweep. Regina drops to 4-4-1-1 with the result while No. 6 Manitoba picks up their sixth win of the Canada West season.

Jane Kish stopped 32 shots for Regina while Lauren Taraschuk earned her second win in as many days with 23 saves.

McVannel's goal came on the powerplay and was set up by Emma Waldenberger and Merissa Zerr. The defender notched her third goal of the season, beating Taraschuk with a low shot to the five hole.

The Cougars led until the 15:37 mark of the third period when, with Martina Maskova off for a five-minute major for boarding, the Bisons' special teams went to work. Erica Rieder scored from the top of the slot to tie the game up, and then with 36 seconds to play Courtlyn Oswald banged in a rebound to put the Bisons up for good.

The Cougars return home for a weekend series against the Calgary Dinos (2-6-0-2) next weekend at The Co-operators Centre.
