The University of Regina women's hockey team returns to The Co-operators Centre this weekend for a matchup with the Calgary Dinos.
The Cougars enter the weekend sporting a 4-4-1-1 record after dropping two contests against the Manitoba Bisons last weekend. Calgary (2-6-0-2) is coming off a split against Mount Royal University.
Catching up with the Cougars
Regina was defeated twice by Manitoba last weekend, falling 4-0 and 2-1 in Winnipeg.
Tamara McVannel scored the lone goal of the weekend for the Cougars, while
Morgan Baker and
Jane Kish each made one appearance in net.
Bailey Braden and
Jaycee Magwood are tied for the team lead in points, with four goals and three assists each.
Merissa Zerr has assisted on six Cougar goals while rookie
Jordan Kulbida has three goals and three helpers. McVannel leads Regina blueliners with five points and three goals.
Baker has made four starts in net, posting a 3.51 goals-against average and a .891 save percentage. Kish has won four games in six starts and has a 1.78 GAA to go with a .942 save percentage.
Dino Details
Sage Desjardins, Laine Grace and Rachel Paul are tied for the most points on the Dinos with three apiece. Kate Lumley and Delaney Frey are also threats to find the net but have struggled so far with just one goal between them.
Kelsey Roberts has seen most of the work between the pipes for the Dinos, starting eight games and winning two. Roberts has a 1.55 goals-against average and is second in Canada West with a .957 save percentage.
A Year Ago
The Cougars took three of four regular season matchups against the Dinos last season, sweeping the home series before splitting on the road. The all-time series between the two teams is tight, with the Cougars winning 18 of 35 regular season contests, but Regina has dominated lately, winning 11 of the last 13.
