Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Pronghorns come from behind to salvage weekend split

Three-straight goals from the Lethbridge Pronghorns fuelled a 3-2 win over the University of Regina women's hockey team on Saturday afternoon.

Denzelle Bourgeois, Tricia Van Vaerenbergh and Kyra Gerig had goals for the Pronghorns while Jordan Kulbida and Tamara McVannel each netted their fourth of the season for Regina. Jessica Lohues made 28 saves in net for Lethbridge and Morgan Baker stopped 27 shots for the Cougars.

Regina held a 1-0 lead after the first period on an effort from the rookie Kulbida. Kylee Kupper and Martina Maskova picked up assists as Kulbida went off the post and in at the 16:33 mark of the first.

Lethbridge (5-7-1-1) scored their first goal of the weekend late in the second period on a deflection off the stick of Bourgeois, then added two more thanks to a marker from Van Vaerenbergh and a powerplay goal by Greig midway through the third period.

The Cougars battled hard to get back in it, as McVannel scored on the powerplay with 1:50 left, but Regina couldn't find the tying goal in the final seconds. Baker came out of the Cougar net for a stretch at the end of the third but point-blank efforts from Emma Waldenberger and Jaycee Magwood failed to solve Lohues.

The Cougars (5-7-1-1) will return to The Co-operators Centre on Friday to host the Saskatchewan Huskies before heading to Saskatoon to close out the 2017 portion of the Canada West schedule with a rematch on Saturday night.
