Cougars close 2017 schedule with ShineOn weekend against Huskies

The University of Regina men's hockey team wraps up the first half of the Canada West schedule this weekend with a home-and-home against the No. 3-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies.

The Cougars and Huskies will square off in Saskatoon on Friday night before renewing the rivalry on Saturday at The Co-operators Centre for the ShineOn game.

Regina Recap
Regina (3-9-2) is coming off a split at home against the Lethbridge Pronghorns, a series which saw Lethbridge take a 6-1 win on Friday but the Cougars rebound for a 5-2 drubbing on Saturday. Zak Zborosky led the way for the Cougar attack with a goal on Friday and two goals and two helpers the following night. Cody Fowlie picked up four assists on Saturday while Tristan Frei scored twice and Zach McPhee also found the net.

Zborosky was named the WHL Graduate of the Month for November and is also tops in Canada West scoring among rookies with eight goals and nine assists. Fowlie, Ian McNulty and Brody Luhning each have 12 points while Frei and Tyler King have chipped in with seven.

Michael Herringer has started 12 games in net for the Cougars, posting a 3-8-1 record with a 4.69 goals-against average and a .866 save percentage. Dawson MacAuley has made three appearances with a 2.87 GAA and .934 save percentage.

Saskatchewan Scoop
Saskatchewan (11-2-1) went on the road a weekend ago and swept Mount Royal, taking 3-2 and 4-1 decisions. Huskie forward Josh Roach leads Canada West in scoring with nine goals and 16 assists in 14 games. Logan McVeigh is next on the list for Saskatchewan with five goals and 14 assists, while Alex Forsberg and Parker Thomas each have four goals and seven assists.

Jordan Cooke has made 11 starts between the pipes for Saskatchewan, winning nine of them. Cooke has a 2.13 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage. Taran Kozun has started three games with a 2-0-1 record.

Second Meeting
The Cougars and Huskies met back in October to kick off the Canada West schedule with a similar home-and-home series. It was all Huskies that weekend, as Saskatchewan took an 8-2 win over Regina then won 6-0 on home ice the following night.

ShineOn Night
The ShineOn Foundation was created in the fall of 2013 in the honour of Chantelle Desmarais, who passed away in September of 2013 following a year-long battle with cancer. Chantelle was the wife of former Cougar hockey player Blair Ledingham and mother to their three children. 22Fresh toques and Hillberg and Berk items will be on sale with proceeds going to the ShineOn Foundation.
