The UBC Thunderbirds scored four times in the second period en route to a 4-1 defeat of the University of Regina men's hockey team on Saturday afternoon.
Anthony Bardaro, Luke Lockhart, Michael Stenerson and Riley Guenther had markers for the Thunderbirds, who move to 10-13-3 with the win.
Tristan Frei replied for the Cougars (3-21-2), also scoring in the second period.
After a scoreless first period, Bardaro notched his 14th of the season just 53 seconds into the middle frame. Frei answered for the Cougars, banging in a rebound after a
Corey Kosloski wrist shot from the circle.
Logan Harland also assisted on Frei's eighth goal of the campaign.
The game-winner was scored just over a minute later, and it came while the Cougars were on the powerplay. Lockhart took a feed from Nick Buonassisi after a turnover in the neutral zone and ripped a shot past
Dawson MacAuley. Stenerson added a breakaway goal and Guenther fired a high shot home to add to the lead before the end of the period.
The Cougars sent 10 of their 30 shots towards the goal in the final frame, but Derek Dun was able to keep the visitors off the scoreboard in the final period. MacAuley stopped 30 shots for the Cougars.
Regina is back on home ice to close the Canada West season next weekend, playing host to the Calgary Dinos for a Friday night tilt and Saturday afternoon rematch.
