SATURDAY: vs. Calgary, 3 p.m., The Co-operators Centre

The University of Regina men's hockey team will close its Canada West season at home this weekend, as the No. 8-ranked Calgary Dinos visit The Co-operators Centre for Friday night and Saturday afternoon contests.

The Cougars (3-21-2) were swept at UBC a weekend ago, dropping 5-2 and 4-1 decisions to the hometown Thunderbirds. Tyson Predinchuk (pictured) and Zach McPhee scored in Friday's loss and Tristan Frei netted his eighth of the season on Saturday afternoon.

Calgary enters the weekend in third place in Canada West, three points back of Alberta and one point ahead of Mount Royal. The Dinos are riding a three-game winning streak, including a sweep of MRU last weekend that included 5-4 and 2-0 wins.

Frei is tied with Ian McNulty and Cody Fowlie for the Cougar lead in points, as Frei and McNulty have eight goals and seven assists to their credit. Fowlie has chipped in with four goals and 11 assists, while Colton Sparrow (4G, 6A) and Tyler Bell (3G, 7A) each have 10 points.

Andy Desautels has seen the most action in the Cougar net, appearing in 16 games and earning three wins. Dawson MacAuley has played in nine games while fifth-year netminder Mitch Kilgore has played in eight.

Elgin Pearce is tied for fourth in the Canada West scoring race with 16 goals and 11 assists in 26 games for the Dinos. Cain Franson (9G, 14A), Dylan Walchuk (8G, 14A), Chris Collins (3G, 16A) and Drydn Dow (4G, 12A) are behind Pearce on the Dino scoring list.

Steven Stanford has made 16 appearances between the pipes for Calgary, posting a 2.51 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage. Rookie Matthew Greenfield has been impressive, with seven wins in nine appearances and marks for 2.19 and .929.

The Cougars and Dinos matched up in Calgary in late November, a weekend which saw Calgary take 5-4 and 6-1 wins. The Cougars have won just one of the last 17 matchups between the two teams.
