The University of Regina women's hockey team will wrap up its Canada West regular-season schedule this weekend with road games against the Calgary Dinos.

The Cougars (10-12-3-1) sit just a point back of the fourth-place Saskatchewan Huskies and a home playoff weekend, as the Huskies play host to Lethbridge this weekend. Regina holds the tie-breaker over Saskatchewan, as the Cougars won three of the four matchups against the Huskies this season.

Returning to the Cougars after missing four games are the trio of players who competed in the FISU Winter Universiade in Almaty Kazakhstan. Alexis Larson, Jaycee Magwood and Kylie Gavelin were members of the Canadian team that captured a silver medal last week.

Regina came within minutes of knocking off the No. 1-ranked UBC Thunderbirds at home last weekend, but UBC was able to escape with 4-3 and 3-1 wins. Emma Waldenberger, Merissa Zerr and Sam Geekie were the Cougar goal scorers on Friday night and Waldenberger scored again on Saturday evening.

Despite missing four games, Magwood leads the Cougars in points by a reasonable margin, having piled up 11 goals and 11 assists. Kylee Kupper (7G, 8A), Gavelin (7G, 7A), Waldenberger (7G, 7A) and Braden (5G, 7A) are next on the Cougar scoring list.

Jane Kish has led the way between the pipes for the Cougars, appearing in 18 games and sporting a 2.36 goals-against average along with a .914 save percentage. Rookie Morgan Baker has four wins under her belt, with a 1.94 GAA and .918 save percentage.

Sasha Vafina, who won gold with Russia at the Universiade, leads the Dinos in scoring with 12 points in 22 games. Heather Berzins has 10 points while Weyburn product Delaney Frey is third with eight points.

Kelsey Roberts has seen the most action in net for Calgary, playing in 17 games to this point. Roberts has a 2.90 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage with two wins.

The Cougars swept Calgary on home ice at the end of November, taking 3-2 and 4-2 wins at The Co-operators Centre. Magwood had three goals and an assist that weekend, while Bailey Braden had two goals and two helpers and Gavelin added two goals of her own.
