The University of Regina women's soccer team couldn't cash in on a number of opportunities in the second half as Thompson Rivers University took a 1-0 decision at the U of R Field on Sunday afternoon.

The game's deciding goal came in the 77^th minute as two U of R defenders couldn't connect on a pass in their own end. Camryn Curts gathered the loose ball and went in uncontested, sliding a low shot under Ashton Lowry to lift TRU to their first win of the season.

The Cougars put five shots on goal for the match but Danielle Robertson was up to the task as the first-year keeper earned her first U SPORTS victory. Lowry only faced two shots at the other end of the pitch, stopping one.

Rookie Impact
TRU relied heavily on first-year players in Sunday's win, as Curts and Robertson are both rookies. Curts had a goal earlier this season in a loss against MacEwan, while Robertson has started all four of the Wolfpack's games. Other first-year athletes Madison Catt, Emerson Hansen, Olivia Bates and Emily Mann also made the start on Sunday afternoon.

Regina also went with some young talent, as Sally Bachmann got the start while Jana Ham and Emily Hutchison came on as subs.

Close Calls
One of the best chances for the Cougars to find the goal came in the 65^th minute as halftime sub Sydney Langen made a series of moves in the box before turning and firing a shot at the net that sailed just high. Olivia Bolen also had a go for the goal in extra time off a free kick, but Robertson leaped to deflect it away for her best save of the match.

Looking Forward
Regina (0-1-3) is at home again next weekend, playing host to the Calgary Dinos and Lethbridge Pronghorns. Both teams sport a 1-2-1 record through four matches. The Cougars dropped a 2-0 decision to Calgary last season and beat Lethbridge 1-0.
