SATURDAY: vs. Manitoba, 3 p.m., The Co-operators Centre

The University of Regina women's hockey team returns to The Co-operators Centre this weekend for a matchup with the No. 2-ranked Manitoba Bisons as the Canada West playoff race intensifies.

Regina (6-12-1-3) was swept by the Alberta Pandas on home ice last weekend, falling 3-0 and 5-0 to the top-ranked team in the nation. Morgan Baker made 23 saves on Friday night before combining with Jane Kish to stop 20 Alberta shots on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars currently hold the last Canada West playoff spot, sitting three points ahead of Calgary.

Cougar Account
Emma Waldenberger and Jaycee Magwood are tied for the team lead in points with six goals and five assists each. Bailey Braden has four goals and five assists to her credit while Tamara McVannel has chipped in from the blue line with five goals and three assists.

Both Cougar netminders have both seen plenty of action in net since the December break, with Kish up to 15 appearances on the season and Baker at eight. Kish has posted a 1.67 goals-against average with a .936 save percentage, while Baker has hit marks of 3.31 and .887. Kish is also tied for third in the conference with four shutouts.

Bisons Report
Manitoba is coming off a weekend sweep of Mount Royal University, taking 1-0 and 2-0 wins. The Bisons (14-5-2-1) haven't allowed a goal in over 180 minutes of ice time, since Jan. 13 against Saskatchewan.

Jordyn Zacharias leads the Bisons in scoring with 10 goals and five assists. Alanna Sharman is second on the team with 13 points while Venla Hovi (12) and Lauryn Keen (10) have also hit double digits in scoring.

Rachel Dyck and Lauren Taraschuk have split time between the pipes for Manitoba, with Dyck playing in 13 games and Taraschuk seeing action in 10. Taraschuk has posted a sparkling 0.75 goals-against average and a .961 save percentage, and leads Canada West in both categories. Dyck has a 2.05 GAA and a .882 save percentage.

The Matchup
The Cougars and Bisons battled in Winnipeg back in November, with Manitoba taking 4-0 and 2-1 wins.  McVannel was the lone goal scorer for Regina that weekend. The Bisons have bested the Cougars in six of the last seven matchups.
