The University of Regina's women's basketball team rode a 25-point performance from All-Canadian guard
Kyanna Giles and closed out its own Cougar Classic non-conference tournament with a 77-68 win over Lethbridge on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
Â
It was a tight game most of the way through, but the Cougars went on a 12-3 run in the fourth quarter that finally put away Lethbridge for good. Prior to that surge by Regina, it was no more than a two-possession game almost the entire contest.
Â
Giles also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for a double-double and led all players with six assists as well.
Angela Bongomin was solid off the bench for the Cougars, going 5-for-6 from the field and ending up with 14 points and five rebounds.
Macaela Crone also had a double-double, scoring 11 points and adding 10 rebounds while recording a pair of blocks.
Â
Amy Mazutinec led Lethbridge with 16 points.
Â
The Cougars, now 3-2 in non-conference play, will have their final tune-ups next weekend at the Darcel Wright Memorial Classic in Toronto. They'll start out against tournament host Ryerson on Friday, then will play either Bishop's or York on Saturday before closing with one more game on Sunday.
