Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late goal powers Huskies past Cougars

The University of Regina women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Saskatchewan Huskies in the first game of a home-and-home series in Saskatoon on Saturday.

The deciding goal came in the 76th minute off the foot of Payton Izsak, as the first-year midfielder converted a feed from Kalli Cowles for her fourth goal of the season.

Kylie Bolton was solid in net for Regina, making seven saves on the afternoon. Hope Pelk stopped both Cougar shots she faced to help the Huskies to their first win of the season.

The best chance for the Cougars came in the 62nd minute, as a header from Grace Miller got past Pelk but was kept out by Saskatchewan's Maya Gabruch. Seconds later Amou Madol also put a shot on goal but Pelk was able to get back in position and make the save.

Saskatchewan had nine corner kicks compared to the Cougars' two, and outshot Regina 12-7 with nine of those shots hitting their target.

The Cougars (2-6-1) and Huskies (1-4-4) will make the trip to Regina for a Sunday afternoon tilt at the U of R Field. Kickoff is set for noon.
