Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Golden Bears roll to 6-1 win over Cougars

The University of Regina men's hockey team ran into a hot Alberta squad at the wrong time on Saturday night, as the third-ranked Golden Bears skated to a 6-1 win over the visiting Cougars.

Cole Sanford and Lucas Nickles each had two goals for Alberta, with Trevor Cox and RIley Kieser adding singles. Cougar captain Tristan Frei scored his second goal of the season in the second period.

Brendan Burke was the winning goaltender for Alberta, stopping 17 shots. Dawson MacAuley was peppered in goal for the Cougars, tying his career high with 54 saves.

Sanford opened the scoring on the powerplay just 2:37 into Saturday's contest, before Cox made it 2-0 with another powerplay goal in the middle of the period. Nickles scored his first of the night at 15:56 and Sanford notched his second just over a minute later.

Frei netted the only goal of the weekend for the Cougars at the 6:30 mark of the second period, deflecting a point shot from James Hilsendager past Burke.

Alberta added another 25 shots on goal in the third period, with Kieser converting a wrap-around late in the period and Nickles adding the finishing touches with just ten seconds left in the game.

The Cougars (2-7-1) will return home and look to get back into the win column against the second-place Calgary DInos.
