The University of Regina's women's basketball team bounced back from a pair of home losses last weekend with a big road win over Brandon on Friday night, leading from start to finish in a convincing 103-55 victory.
Kyanna Giles returned to the lineup after missing almost two full games due to a lower-body injury suffered early in last Friday's game against Trinity Western and didn't miss a beat. Giles was 7-for-12 from the field, tied for the game high with 21 points, and added eight rebounds and three steals.
Carolina Goncalves added 16 points and five assists for the Cougars, while
Macaela Crone and
Faith Reid both scored 14 points. Crone and
Angela Bongomin both had double-doubles, with Crone pulling down 10 rebounds and Bongomin finishing with 11 points and 11 boards.
There was little doubt of the outcome right from the opening whistle, as the Cougars scored the first 15 points of the game and didn't allow a point until Brandon finally got on the board well over four minutes into the contest. The Cougars led 21-12 after the opening period, 51-28 at halftime, and 77-43 through three quarters to notch their third consecutive road victory of the young Canada West schedule.
Brandon (2-3) was led by Adrianna Proulx, who scored 21 points for the Bobcats.
The Cougars (3-2) will go for the weekend sweep on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
