The University of Regina women's hockey team will look to clinch a playoff berth this weekend as the Cougars play host to the Lethbridge Pronghorns in the final weekend of the Canada West regular season.

The Cougars enter the weekend in the sixth and final playoff spot in Canada West, two points ahead of Calgary and one point back of Mount Royal. Any combination of Cougar wins and Calgary losses against the first-place Manitoba Bisons will clinch a berth for Regina.

Cougar Background

Regina visited Calgary last weekend, earning four out of a possible six points and passing the Dinos in the Canada West standings. Emma Waldenberger scored with one second left on Friday to force an overtime period that saw the Dinos take the win, but the Cougars used two Lilla Carpenter-Boesch goals on Saturday to earn the regulation victory and take hold of a playoff spot.

Waldenberger leads the charge on offence for the Cougars with seven goals and six assists. Jaycee Magwood (6G, 5A) and Tamara McVannel (5G, 5A) also have double figures in points for the Cougars.

Morgan Baker made both starts in net last weekend against the Dinos, stopping 17 shots on Friday and 18 on Saturday. Baker has posted a 2.83 goals-against average and a .896 save percentage in 11 appearances, while Jane Kish has a 1.75 GAA and .933 save percentage in 16 games played.

Pronghorn Report

Lethbridge sits last in Canada West with a 3-17-2-4 record. The last win for the Pronghorns was against the Cougars back in November, when they took a 3-2 win in the second game of a weekend series.

Alli Borrow, Tricia Van Vaerenbergh and Katelyn Breitkreuz are all tied for the team lead with eight points, while rookie Kyra Greig and Jodi Gentile have six apiece.

Alicia Anderson has played in all but two of the Pronghorns' games, and is fourth in the conference with a .949 save percentage. Anderson also has a 1.75 goals-against average and two shutouts to her credit.

The Matchup

The Cougars and Pronghorns split a weekend set in Lethbridge in November, with Regina winning 1-0 before Lethbridge answered with a 3-2 win. The Cougars have an all-time winning percentage of .692 against Lethbridge, their highest against any Canada West team.
