It was all Laval from start to finish as the Rouge et Or took a 99-56 win over the Regina Cougars in a non-conference game on Saturday at École secondaire publique Louis-Riel in Ottawa.
The win was a measure of revenge for Laval, which lost to the Cougars in the quarterfinals of last year's U SPORTS Championship in Regina.
Laval opened up a 21-10 lead after the opening quarter and had a 49-28 advantage at halftime, and ended any hope of a Cougar comeback by outscoring the U of R by a 24-9 margin in the third quarter. Khaleann Caron Goudreau and Sarah-Jane Marois led Laval in scoring with 23 points and 20 points, respectively, with Goudreau also pulling down a game-high eight rebounds for the Rouge et Or.
Macaela Crone was 3-for-4 from three-point land and led Regina with 17 points and seven rebounds, while
Carolina Goncalves finished with 12 points.
The Cougars will take a 1-1 non-conference record into next week's Cougar Classic, which will see them meet Lakehead (Oct. 10), Saskatchewan (Oct. 11), and Lethbridge (Oct. 12) at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
