The University of Regina women's hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision against the No. 4-ranked Alberta Pandas on Saturday afternoon, as the Pandas sweep the season series against the Cougars.
Alex Poznikoff had a hat trick for the home team, and Regan Wright was also able to solve Jane Kish. Nikki Watters-Matthes scored the only goal for the Cougars, who fall to 7-12-2-3.
Halle Oswald stopped 13 shots to pick up the win while Kish made 26 saves in the loss.
Poznikoff's first of the contest came midway through the first, as a shot from Autumn MacDougall redirected right to Poznikoff and Kish was caught out of position.
MacDougall set up Poznikoff again in the second period, and Wright stretched the lead to 3-0 in the third with another powerplay goal. Watters-Matthes scored at the 14:39 mark of the third off an assist from Adela Juzkova, but Poznikoff sealed the deal with a late empty-netter.
Regina finished the night perfect on the powerplay, while Alberta went 2-for-7 with the advantage.Â
The Cougars will be back on home ice next weekend as the last-place Calgary Dinos will visit The Co-operators Centre.Â
