Big fourth quarter lifts Cougars past Trinity Western

Box Score

The University of Regina's women's basketball team finished on a 13-0 run as the Cougars took a 64-54 non-conference win over Trinity Western on Wednesday night in Langley.

The Cougars led for most of the way, including 20-7 after the first quarter and 37-29 at the halftime break. But Trinity Western battled back, taking the lead in the fourth quarter before the big game-ending run by the Cougars. Regina scored each of the final 13 points of the contest as TWU went scoreless in the last five minutes, turning what had been a three-point Spartans advantage into a 10-point Regina win.

Faith Reid was 5-for-8 from three-point range and scored a game-high 17 points in the win, while Emily Dewey added 12 points and Michaela Kleisinger scored 11. Macaela Crone tied for the game high with eight rebounds for the Cougars, who are now 4-2 in six non-conference games against U SPORTS opposition.

Nicole Fransson led Trinity Western with 14 points.

The Cougars will play their final preseason game this Sunday as they'll travel to southern California to square off with San Diego State (NCAA Div. I) in an exhibition game. That contest will tip off at 1:00 PM Pacific time.
