Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars topped 2-0 by Huskies in Saskatoon

Jared Dmytriw's two third-period goals lifted the Saskatchewan Huskies to a 2-0 win over the Regina Cougars on Saturday night at Merlis Belsher Place in Saskatoon.

The two teams battled to a scoreless draw through the first 44 minutes of the game, but Dmytriw scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal early in the third. The first-year forward stepped across the blue line with speed and snapped a shot high blocker side from the top of the right circle for his fifth goal of the year.

Dmytriw added to the U of S lead just over three minutes later. Collin Shirley fanned on his initial shot attempt and directed a weak shot that fluttered in on Regina goalie Brandon Holtby, but Dmytriw tapped in the rebound.

Travis Child registered a 28-save shutout for Saskatchewan, helping the No. 5-ranked Huskies improve to 9-3-2 on the season.

Making his second start in as many nights for the Cougars, Holtby was spectacular at times and ended up stopping 32 of Saskatchewan's 34 shots in the loss.

The Cougars (2-10-1) will now hit the road for their final two games of the first half of the conference schedule. They'll take on a Calgary team that also holds a 9-3-2 Canada West record and is currently ranked No. 9 in U SPORTS. Regina and the Dinos will meet on Friday night (7:00 MT) and Saturday afternoon (3:00 MT) in Calgary.
