The University of Regina's men's basketball team rolled to a 101-59 victory over Mount Royal University at Kenyon Court on Friday afternoon.
The day after falling to MRU by nine points, the Cougars picked up their first win of the Canada West season on Friday. The Cougars shot 46.8% from the field including 11 triples, and out-rebounded the home team 63-35.
Regina held a 24-19 lead after the first quarter before exploding for a 26-9 second frame. The second quarter started with a 14-2 run kicked off by back-to-back buckets from
Samuel Hillis and a layup from
Carter Millar. All three scores were set up by
Josiah Thomas, who finished the game with six assists.
The Cougars carried their momentum into the third quarter, outscoring MRU 28-15 before coasting to a 23-16 advantage in the fourth quarter.
All five Cougar starters scored in double figures on the afternoon, led by Millar's 17 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.
Samuel Hillis and
Matt Barnard each had 12 points while
Benjamin Hillis had 11 and
Greishe Clerjuste cracked double digits with 10.
Brayden Kuski added nine points off the bench with three long balls while
Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo had eight points and eight boards and
Nigel Warden chipped in with seven and three helpers.
The Cougars cashed in 16 of their 18 free throws, and worked in 20 assists compared to just five by MRU.
Regina will return home to the CKHS next weekend for a battle against the Winnipeg Wesmen.
NOTE: Friday's 42-point win was the third-largest margin of victory in program history, only behind a 109-66 win over Winnipeg in 2005 and a 94-50 result against Lakehead in 1986-87.
