The University of Regina men's hockey team fell 6-1 to the No. 6-ranked Calgary Dinos at the Father David Bauer Arena on Friday night.
Riley Sheen led the way for Calgary, dishing out four assists on the night. Coda Gordon found the net twice for Calgary, and Ryan Gagnon, Ryan Graham, Matt Alfaro and Logan Fisher also had goals.
Connor Odelein scored his second of the season early in the second period for the Cougars.
Calgary dominated the time of possession on Friday night, and the Dino defence was stifling. Calgary outshot Regina 46-11 on the night, with the Cougars only mustering two shots in the first period and one in the third.
A powerplay marker from Gordon in the first period was the only marker of the opening frame, and Odelein scored off assists from Tyler King and Ben Duperreault just 15 seconds into the second period. The tie game didn't last long, as Calgary replied with three goals in the frame to push the lead to 4-1 after 40 minutes.
Goals from Graham and Gagnon in the third period stretched the lead, and three Cougar penalties in the final period made it tough for the Cougars to generate any offence.
Dawson MacAuley made 40 saves on the night, while Matthew Greenfield stopped 10 shots for Calgary.
The Dinos improve to 17-6-2 with the win, while Regina drops to 4-20-1. The two teams will battle once again on Saturday, with puck drop scheduled for 2 p.m. local time.
