The University of Regina women's hockey team will head to Vancouver for the second weekend in a row, this time for a Canada West quarterfinal series against the No. 10-ranked UBC Thunderbirds.

The Cougars and Thunderbirds wrapped up the conference regular season last weekend, as UBC earned the sweep with 6-1 and 1-0 wins.

Catching up with the Cougars
Regina finished the Canada West regular season in sixth place, sporting a 9-14-2-3 record. Fifth-year forward Emma Waldenberger led the team in scoring, scoring 10 goals and adding seven assists while playing in all 28 conference games. Jaycee Magwood chipped in with seven goals and nine assists, and Tamara McVannel paced the team from the blue line with three goals and 12 helpers.

Jane Kish and Morgan Baker split time between the pipes for the Cougars, with Kish appearing in 18 games and Baker in 12. Kish had one shutout and eight wins, with a 2.70 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage. Baker had two shutouts and three wins, while hitting marks of 2.10 and .916.

About the Thunderbirds
Hannah Clayton-Carroll led the T-Birds in points, scoring 10 goals and setting up seven more. Rookies Ashley McFadden and Rylind MacKinnon made big impacts in their first season at the U SPORTS level, with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Tory Micklash saw most of the action in net for UBC, making 19 appearances to Amelia Boughn's nine. Micklash posted 13 wins and was third in the conference with a .950 save percentage. Micklash started three out of the four games against the Cougars this season, with one shutout.

Season Series
UBC swept the four-game season series between the two teams, winning 3-0 and 2-1 in a shootout in Regina in November before last weekend's results.

The History Books
UBC has won 13 of the last 14 matchups between the two teams, with the last Cougar win coming at The Co-operators Centre in October of 2017. The last time the Cougars and Thunderbirds met in the playoffs was the 2015-16 season, when UBC won the best-of-three semifinal two games to one after the Cougars won the series opener.
