Kish named Canada West First Star of the Week

University of Regina women's hockey goalie Jane Kish was named the Canada West First Star of the Week on Tuesday afternoon after leading the Cougars to a pair of road wins over the UBC Thunderbirds this past weekend.

Kish was perfect in net for the Cougars as they registered their third and fourth consecutive road wins to start the 2020 calendar year. She stood on her head with a 34-save shutout in Friday's win, then followed that up with an 18-save blanking on Saturday that gave her a school single-season record with her fifth shutout of the year.

"Jane was key, especially in penalty killing situations on Friday, which allowed us to stay in the game and build some positive momentum," Cougars head coach Sarah Hodges said. "She was a huge part of our team's sweep and getting important six points on the road, and has been playing the best hockey of her career since the break."

Kish became the U of R's career leader in shutouts earlier this year, and is now up to 13 in her five seasons in a Cougar uniform. She's been simply lights out in her past four games, stopping 96 of 99 shots and sporting a miniscule 0.72 goals-against average during the team's recent four-game run.

Now in a playoff position after securing 11 of a possible 12 points so far this month, the surging Cougars are back at home this weekend for two games against Mount Royal. They'll take on the Calgary-based Cougars on Friday night (7:00) and Saturday afternoon (3:00) at The Co-operators Centre.

NOTES: Kish will move forward as Canada West's nominee for the U SPORTS Female Athlete of the Week, which will be announced Wednesday.
