The University of Regina's women's basketball team collected an important 98-81 road victory over the Manitoba Bisons on Friday night in Winnipeg.
Michaela Kleisinger was again stellar for the Cougars, leading all players and setting a new career high with 23 points while also collecting a game-high 12 assists to go along with six rebounds.
Faith Reid added 20 points while setting a new career mark with eight rebounds, while
Macaela Crone finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the Canada West schedule.
Regina trailed by 12 at one point in the first quarter as Manitoba jumped out to a 25-13 lead, but the Cougars completely erased the double-digit deficit with a 12-0 run in the second quarter that helped give them a 49-47 edge at halftime. The Cougars led 72-66 after three, and put the game away with 11 straight points that put them up by 15 with three minutes to play.
The win was big for the Cougars (7-8) as they're very much in contention to host a play-in game to start the Canada West postseason. They came in ranked No. 8 in the conference in RPI, and the road win over Manitoba - which was No. 10 heading into Friday's action - will be a huge boost to their chances of finishing in the top eight and earning the right to host a postseason game.
Taylor Randall and Addison Martin both had 18 points to lead Manitoba, which falls to 7-8 with the loss.
The Cougars will go for the weekend sweep - and their fourth consecutive victory - on Saturday night. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
