The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns outran the Regina Cougars for a 110-92 victory on Friday night at the 1st Choice Savings Centre in Lethbridge.
The Cougars got out to a quick start with the first seven points of the game, but Lethbridge immediately responded with 9-0 and 12-3 runs in the first quarter to take control. The Pronghorns led 26-20 after the first quarter and ended the second on a 14-4 run which gave them a 51-33 advantage at the half.
Lethbridge (4-7) led by double digits the entire second half, answering a brief Cougar push with a 12-2 run in the third quarter that gave the Pronghorns their largest lead of the game at 21.
Colton Gibb poured in a game-high 34 points from Lethbridge while also leading all players with 12 rebounds and tying for the game high with six assists. Jeffrey Rodehutskors also had a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Scott Mazutinec and Keanu Funa came off the bench with 17 points and 16 points for the Pronghorns, respectively.
The loss overshadowed a career-high 28 points for Regina's
Carter Millar, who also had a team-high seven rebounds.
Brayden Kuski added 13 points for the Cougars, while
Greishe Clerjuste and
Benjamin Hillis both chipped in with 10.
The Cougars (4-7) will try to salvage a weekend split with the Pronghorns on Saturday night in Lethbridge. Game time is set for 7:00 MT/8:00 SK.
