Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars suffer road loss to Mount Royal

The University of Regina's men's hockey team suffered a 5-1 loss to Mount Royal on Saturday afternoon at the Flames Community Arena in Calgary.

The Cougars opened up the scoring fewer than three minutes into the contest when Tyler Adams made a nice rush up the right wing. Adams went through a Mount Royal defender with a nice inside-out move and while he wasn't able to finish, Tanner Sidaway was right there to jam in his third goal of the season.

That gave Regina a 1-0 lead which they'd hang on to well into the second period, but Riley Sawchuk and Ethan Regnier both scored in the middle stanza to put Mount Royal up 2-1 through 40 minutes.

Mount Royal pulled away in the third with a natural hat trick by Bradley Kennedy. Kennedy scored six minutes into the final period, then notched two more goals just three minutes apart to seal the late-season win for MRU.

The Cougars fall to 7-8-1 with the loss, but still sit in playoff position as they're in sixth place in the Canada West standings with 15 points. Regina sits two points behind fifth-place Mount Royal and four points up on seventh-place Manitoba, though both of those teams have two games in hand on the Cougars.

Regina has just two weekends left in conference play, including next weekend as the Cougars will play host to UBC in what will be the only two meetings of the Canada West schedule between the two teams. Game time is set for 7:00 PM on Friday and 3:00 PM on Saturday at The Co-operators Centre.
