Cougars win 7-3 over MacEwan to finish with road split

HEADLINE
  • The University of Regina's men's hockey team skated to a 7-3 road victory over MacEwan on Saturday afternoon at the Downtown Community Arena in Edmonton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless opening period, the Cougars exploded with four goals in a span of just 5:38 as Brady Pouteau, Matt Culling, Mike Eskra, and Kolton Shindle all scored for the visitors.
  • MacEwan made things interesting with a pushback that started with a Brendan Boyle goal with under a minute to go in the second and continued with goals by Kole Gable and Boyle early in the third.
  • Pouteau scored his second of the game just 28 seconds after Boyle's second, then Scott Mickoski and Tyler Heidt scored in a span of 22 seconds just before the midpoint of the third period to put the Cougars up 7-3.
  • After coming on in relief during Friday's game, Adam Evanoff got the start on Saturday for the Cougars and made 35 saves in the win.

NOTES
  • Two Cougars had three-point nights in the victory, including Culling with a goal and two assists and Jayden Davis with three helpers.
  • The Cougars move to 1-1-0 with Saturday's win.
