Cougars claim 4-0 victory over Lethbridge

HEADLINE 
  • Three University of Regina players scored their first Canada West goals on Saturday afternoon, helping lift the Cougars to a 4-0 victory over Lethbridge at the U of R Field.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Makenna Sackmann opened the scoring with her first career goal right around six minutes in, heading in a ball that was nicely delivered courtesy of a Jessica Merk free kick.
  • Kirsten Koellmel notched the first goal of her career in the 23rd minute, scoring from in tight with a helper from Taylor Bubnick.
  • Peyton Enns all but sealed the win with a goal off a penalty kick in the 69th minute, her third goal of the season.
  • Lennox Lockhurst joined the party in the 84th minute, taking a great through ball from Sophia Stevens and knocking home her first as a Cougar.
 
NOTES
  • The Cougars improve to 1-4-5 on the season and now sit just two points behind Manitoba for the fifth and final Canada West playoff berth after the Bisons were edged 1-0 by MacEwan on Saturday.
  • Allyson Ford earned the win and the shutout for the Cougars, making one save to register her first shutout of the season and the fifth of her career.
 
NEXT UP
  • The Cougars return to action on Sunday at the U of R Field with their penultimate home match of the 2022 season. They'll host Mount Royal with a scheduled noon kickoff.
