Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars force overtime, but lose 4-3 to Bisons in extra session

QUICKLY
  • A late Matt Culling goal helped the University of Regina's men's hockey team pick up a point, but the Cougars fell 4-3 in overtime to the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday afternoon at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars scored the lone goal of the first period when Ty Barnstable deflected home a Brennan Riddle shot from the point on the power play.
  • The home team struck again on the power play just over a minute into the second, with Riddle feeding Tyler Adams for a one-timer from the right circle that went post and in.
  • Manitoba replied shortly after the Adams goal with three goals in the span of 58 seconds. Dylan Thiessen scored on the power play for the Bisons, then Mitchell Dyck and Tony Apetagon both notched goals to put the U of M up 3-2.
  • The score stayed that way until Culling's goal, which happened just after Adam Evanoff was pulled for an extra attacker and with 1:50 remaining in regulation.
  • Samuel Stewart took a pass from Thiessen on a 2-on-1 in overtime and roofed a shot over a sprawling Evanoff to send the Bisons home with the weekend sweep.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars (1-2-1) will be back in action next weekend with games at Calgary on Friday night and Saturday night. Their next home games will be on Oct. 28 and Oct. 29 against the University of Alberta.
