Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Big second period lifts Calgary to 4-2 win over Cougars

QUICKLY
  • A four-goal outburst by the Calgary Dinos in the second period lifted them to a 4-2 victory over the Regina Cougars on Saturday afternoon in a Canada West women's hockey game at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars opened the scoring on a nice individual effort by Jadyn Kushniruk, who stripped a Dinos player of the puck, walked around one of their defenders, and slid in a backhand to put the home team up 1-0 heading into the first intermission.
  • The second period was all Calgary. Alli Borrow tied up the game under two minutes into the frame, then Keagan Goulet, Brooke Dennett, and Elizabeth Lang all scored in the span of five minutes later on in the period.
  • Kaitlyn Gilroy scored her first Canada West goal after burying a rebound off a Paige Hubbard shot five minutes into the third, but the Cougars weren't able to get any closer despite sending 16 shots at Calgary goalie Gabriella Durante in the final period alone.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars (2-3-1) hit the road next weekend for a two-game trip in Edmonton. They'll play the University of Alberta Pandas (5-3-0) on Friday and Saturday before returning to the Queen City.
