Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer falls 2-1 to Saskatchewan

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's women's soccer team fell 2-1 to the Saskatchewan Huskies in an entertaining, well-played match on Friday night at the U of R Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Saskatchewan scored the only goal of the first half in the 38th minute after a corner kick. Alyssa D'Agnone got a shot off from in tight which was saved, but it went right to Cassidy Hayward who scored off the rebound.
  • Taylor Bubnick tied it up in the 72nd minute off a beautiful feed from the right from Nicole Klassen.
  • Cheyenne Lehmann was awarded a penalty kick in the 88th after Emily Little was fouled in the box and scored what would turn out to be the game-winning goal.
  • The Cougars had some glorious chances to tie it in injury time, most notably on a Delaney Rhinehart rocket that was blasted off the cross bar and led to another pair of U of R chances from close range.

STANDINGS
  • The Cougars fall to 1-6-5 with the loss while Saskatchewan improves to 7-2-3 and pulls into a tie for first place in the Prairie Division with MacEwan, though the Griffins have played two fewer matches than the U of S.

U PRAIRIE CHALLENGE
  • Saskatchewan now leads the #UPrairieChallenge 1.25 to 0.25 as the Huskies take three-quarters of the women's soccer point thanks to their win and draw with the Cougars this season. Saskatchewan also got a half point from its narrow win over the U of R Rams in football last month.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars will finish the Canada West schedule next weekend with a road trip to Edmonton to face MacEwan and Alberta on Oct. 15 and Oct. 16.
