Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Saskatchewan breaks late tie, scores road win over Cougars

QUICKLY
  • Though it was still a tie game with just over six minutes left in regulation, the University of Regina's men's hockey team ended up losing 5-1 to Saskatchewan on Friday night at The Co-operators Centre in front of a crowd well in excess of 900 people.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Riley Krane opened up the scoring on the power play for the Cougars early in the first as he deflected a Tyler Heidt shot from the point. Regina peppered Saskatchewan goalie Roddy Ross with 20 shots in the opening frame, but Krane's tip was the only one that beat him.
  • The score stayed 1-0 for Regina until with just a minute remaining in the second when Cael Zimmerman took advantage of a Regina turnover and tied it up with his fifth of the season.
  • Dawson Holt scored what would turn out to be the game-winning goal with 6:05 remaining in the third, roofing a shot from the bottom of the right circle with a delayed penalty upcoming to Regina.
  • Jaxan Kaluski extended the lead on the power play less than a minute and a half later, and Kaluski then scored on an empty net before Mark Rumsey added one final tally for Saskatchewan in the final minute.

NOTES
  • Heidt and Tyler Adams both assisted on Krane's goal. Heidt leads the Cougars in both assists (7) and points (10) this season.

NEXT UP
  • With Saturday's scheduled game at Saskatoon postponed to Nov. 29 due to a water main break at the Huskies' home arena, the Cougars will now prepare for a road series at Mount Royal next weekend. They'll face MRU on Friday night and Saturday night before returning to Regina.
